This family was living in a typical story-and-a-half home in South Minneapolis. Our 10 year old client occupied a bedroom on the main floor. The bathroom was very small and the hallway was very tight for the wheelchair to navigate. The client was dependent on his family to help him with the tub and toilet, and to assist him with getting his wheelchair into the bathroom.

Because the wheelchair was so large and our client had the potential of being independent if given adequate space, we used the entire existing bathroom space for just a roll-under sink and the toilet, with adequate transfer space around it. We eliminated the bath tub and converted a second bedroom to a large roll-in shower and dressing room. The doorways were widened and the hallway reconfigured for better wheelchair access. The client is now using the space independently.
